Bloggers and Tiaras: Mom Beauty

My first mission for Bloggers and Tiaras is to post my thoughts on Mom Beauty.  Here it goes:

Before I was a Mom, I didn’t think “beauty” was something that described me.  I always thought of myself as the “cool” girl, not the “beautiful” girl.  I didn’t focus on myself, I didn’t try very hard, and I didn’t think very much about beauty.

After I became a Mom, I didn’t feel beautiful either.  I felt like a zombie milk making machine.  My boobs seemed to take over.  No, big boobs didn’t make me feel more beautiful, it made me feel like a bloated pig.   For the first year of motherhood, I struggled with my body, my self image and being a Mom.

Thankfully, that changed.  About a year into being a Mom, I was transformed.  Motherhood gave me confidence.  I no longer think of beauty as something that describes other women.  It describes me.  Perhaps it is maturity, perhaps it’s acceptance.  Maybe it has something to do with the unconditional love children give.  The attention and love I envelop my child in envelops me, too.  Maybe it is that I don’t want Lucy to grow up not feeling beautiful.  I want to model good self esteem for her benefit and it has ended up changing my life.  Beauty is not something you are, it’s something you exude.  Having confidence allows your beauty to shine and allows you to enjoy being you!

Great post, Kate! I so know what you mean. Those first months are especially hard, what with the constant milk and the baby weight and the exhaustion.

You are beautiful, your daughter is beautiful, and you will raise her to know it!

Very well written! I have to agree with you about the nursing thing – it doesn’t really make you feel attractive so much as… utilitarian or something lol – regardless, I’m glad you found a way to feel beautiful and confident!
