My laundry tip is to wash in cold water for everything. Not only is it good for the environment (by not using precious fuel and/or energy to heat the water), but my clothes come out just as clean as with hot water. The best part is your bills though–we pay a fraction of what we did before we switched to cold water.

I hate it so much that I taught my kids and husband how to do their own laundry. It came in handy when the kids went to college–they had been doing laundry for years. Other moms gave me grief when they were in elementary school. I had to work.

I have a great laundry tip – you know those unsightly orange stains that your kids have on their clothes after a day at the ballfield? You know, the ones that refuse to come out? Take a squirt of dishwashing liquid in some cold water and soak the garments in the machine overnight. Problem solved. Works every time.

I add a couple of tablespoons of salt when I am washing colors. My mom used to tell me that this keeps the colors brighter longer.
