Hospital Trips and Cake Squares

Lucy had to go to her quarterly specialist visit this week at the hospital. She got a good report and then had to get her blood taken. Well, we got through that, with some tears. So, we got in the elevator to leave and whispered to her in the quietest voice I could make, “Wanna go get a cake square?”

Out of no where, from across the elevator a women obviously no stranger to baked goods, said “MMM…Cake Squares? You goin to Dewey’s? You gettin the Pink Lemonade Cake Square? Those are so good!” At no point during the entire elevator ride did she even look away from staring at the floor number display. She was completely visualizing the beloved pink lemonade cake square.

I swear I thought I was going to fall over. It was hilarious. It was made more hilarious when I ate the cake square and it sucked. But what do you expect from Dewey’s. It’s said it’s The Bakery in town. Is there hope for a decent cake shop when people are used to cafeteria cake? Oh, Winston Salem, get some cake taste.

You have to catch the cake squares when they are fresh. I have only done this once and they were outstanding. Other times they were blah!
